Is Toning Necessary?

Moisturizing and cleansing are no foreigners to the average person’s skin care routine, but could the most crucial ingredient for healthy skin be the one product that is often the most overlooked? Toners are not nearly as common as they should be when taking into consideration the level of benefits they provide the user.

Using a toner unclogs and shrinks the appearance of one’s facial pores. Toners remove excess dirt, oils, and dead skin that tend to get stuck in pores. By removing dirt, oil, and dead skin, toners are adding a layer of protection to the skin, and reduce the chance of blackheads, acne breakouts, and ingrown hairs.

Additionally, incorporating a toner in your skin care schedule is beneficial for restoring the pH balance of your skin. Most people have already adopted facial cleansing into their beauty routine, but what a lot of those people may not know is that cleansing disturbs that natural pH balance of our skin because of the alkaline properties of soap. Our skin is naturally acidic with a pH usually ranging from 5-6, while alkaline properties are basic (high pH). When the pH balance is disturbed, skin works overtime to restore that balance – which oftentimes results in excessively oily skin. Therefore, using a toner after cleansing speeds up the balancing process while avoiding the buildup of oil on the skin.

Toners are also cherished for their exfoliating properties. Because they’re exfoliators, toners revitalize and illuminate skin, while at the same time revealing the skin’s underlying brightness. Toners give a boost of antioxidants while also soothing, moisturizing, and hydrating the skin.

Ultimately, because of its substantial benefits, it is crucial to think twice about overlooking the importance of toning. Incorporating it into your daily skin care regimen may just be what makes all the difference in the health and appearance of your skin.
