7 Ways To Healthier Skin

Healthy skin extends beyond the products we use on our face or the hours of beauty sleep we get. In fact, it’s a combination of many important factors. Incorporating these little tips and tricks into your every day will have a big impact on the way you look and feel – and your skin will thank you for it!

  • Drink Plenty of Water

Water flushes toxins and waste products from our bodies. Insufficient water intake causes toxins to accumulate and become trapped underneath the skin. Even a small amount of dehydration takes a toll on the skin – causing it to look dull, loose, and flaky.

  • Develop a Consistent Skin Care Routine

Just like all things in life, your skin benefits and thrives off of regular maintenance and TLC. Taking care of your skin regularly improves the appearance and quality of skin, and ensures skin will stay in good condition. Visible results will only come with consistency – there is no shortcut to healthy skin, but maintenance becomes easier once you begin to see results. Every skin type is different and has unique needs and specific products that meet those needs, but there is a standard sequence of steps that is universally recommended. There general sequence is: cleanser, toner, serums,  moisturizer (or oils), and sunscreen.

  • Choose Natural Products

Natural skin care and makeup products are more potent and safer alternatives to the harsh chemical-filled products on the market. Natural products are less irritating on skin than their non-natural counterparts, they have less of an impact on the environment, and often lead to better results and healthier skin.

  • Detox

Toxins, chemicals, and pollutants can very easily buildup in our bodies due to the level of daily exposure we have to each of these elements. It is crucial to not only your body’s health, but also to your skin’s health, to flush these contaminants out of your body. Juice cleanses are a great way to detoxify, feel healthy, and obtain healthy skin. Kale, carrots, lemon, beets, ginger, watercress, cucumbers, and apples are great ingredients to use in your juice for glowing skin.

  • Limit Sugar Intake

Excess sugar intake leads to and speeds up wrinkle formation. Sugar in our blood binds to collagen and elastin proteins and causes the fibers to become rigid, leaving our skin sagging and wrinkled. In addition to premature aging, a surplus of sugar in our diets can also cause dryness, irritation, and acne. This doesn’t mean that we can never enjoy our favorite treats, but it does mean that for the sake of our skin, we must be more cautious of what we eat.

  • Sleep

Your skin rejuvenates and repairs itself when you sleep. Therefore, it is important to get a good quality sleep and skip the all-nighters (and pay attention to what products you use at night!).

  • Antioxidant, Antioxidants, Antioxidants

Another way to keep skin fresh and healthy is to utilize the power of antioxidants. Antioxidants help your body fight disease, reduce damage and inflammation, and they even help slow down the aging process. Eat foods with antioxidants and look for antioxidants in the products you use. Some of the best sources of natural antioxidants include blueberries, spinach, pomegranates, and green tea.

Skin is the largest organ out of the 78 organs found in the human body – so taking care of it is extremely important. Skincare requires dedication, practice, and consistency.  The road to healthy and glowing skin is a difficult, but rewarding, one. Slowly incorporating some of these skin-saving tips into your daily routine will help you show your skin the love it needs!
